If you've been following me for a while - at least since the start of the year - then you'll know that, as part of my strategy to launch the Jake Tanner Crime Thriller series, I was going to release them episodically, like any good television series on TV or Netflix nowadays.
At first it started well.
The Conspiracy, The Community... They were selling well. And the initial feedback was good.
But then I hit a point where I decided I didn't want to do this anymore.
And so now I've released them as complete books, like a normal person.
The reasons for doing so are twofold:
1) Firstly, the effort required to maintain and update six of the same titles for one book was monumental. If I needed to change the tiniest thing on Episode 1, then chances were I needed to change it on all of them. So I was doing six times the work for not that much more gain. it simply wasn't worth it.
2) The initial feedback I'd got from readers about the way it was published was good. Overall, a success. But as I considered scaling it up, I took the question to a wider audience - where the resounding response was, no. They didn't like it,and they weren't prepared to pay £5+ for one book when they could four for the same price. Understandable.
And, even from a financial view, the royalties weren't that great either. Much more financially viable to release them as one flat book, one flat fee than six different books and prices.
So there you have it.
The Jake Tanner crime thriller series will now consist of 6 books.
Published individually. One price.
Nice and simple. Nice and easy.
And, I must say, I'm feeling better about it as well. I want to give the series the best chance of success, and I think this is the way to do so. I'm excited to see the potential.
So, sorry to those who enjoyed the episodic nature of the stories - but my sanity and time trumped all.
But to those who enjoy reading one book in one go, then come on in. Join me on the other side.
