My Favourite Type of Music

The music industry is a mahoosive one. It's even as big as the publishing industry. And if you want to quibble over that last statement, then just ask yourself, "How long have books been around?" and, "How many books are self-published and released every day, week, month, year?" And if you don't know the answer to that last question, then I'll tell you the answer is THOUSANDS.

But I'm not here to wage wars with the keyboard warriors.

The reason you're here, and the reason I'm writing this, is because you want to know what type of music I like. That's understandable. We all love music, and in a weird way, I'm sure music loves us, too. Music has the power, just like the written word, to invoke plenty of emotions and recollections of memories past.

Music then, is one of man's greatest creations. For, without it, we'd all pretty displeased with everything and our dopamine levels would be dangerously low.

If you haven't already guessed, I LOVE music.

But, unfortunately, there's a caveat to this statement: that I only really like one or two genres of music.

Sure, I can tolerate different genres every now and then but you'll seldom see anything majorly out of my listening range on my iTunes or Spotify.

If I had to narrow it down to one genre, inlcuding niches that fall within that genre, my favourite type of music would be "Indie Rock".

Perhaps it's the hair (my hair, not any of those rockers'). Or perhaps it's my appreciation for the talent those men and women have (don't get me started on this). Or maybe it's because it's what I was brought up listening to.

Yeah, I think that's it.

I remember car journeys with my dad, listening to some of my favourite artists like Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and the mighty Oasis. As I was growing up in the 90s and 00s, these were the most popular bands of their time - and still are today! So it is unlikely I would have adoration for genres like Hip Hop and RnB.

Of those four bands listed above, I still listen to all of them on a regular basis. They form the fundamentals to my listening repertoire. They still take up the majority of the space on my phone storage. They're that integral to what I listen to.

But, like any child ever to have lived on this earth, I have deviated from these artists and branched into my own tastes, my own flavours.

And these are the "Indie Rock" bands that I listen to frequently.

To name a few, in no particular order, they are:

  1. The Wombats

  2. Royal Blood

  3. Kasabian

  4. Imagine Dragons

  5. Arctic Monkeys

  6. The 1975

  7. Snow Patrol

  8. Jamie T

  9. Two Door Cinema Club

  10. Catfish and the Bottlemen

Now, this is in no way shape or form the complete list, but at least it gives you an understanding as to what sort of music I like and what I like to listen to.

If you're reading this and wondering to yourself, "Who the hell are those?", well then why not try them out and listen to them. You never know, you might fall in love with one of them. And I sincerely hope you do.
